Afton was born on May 28, 1896 in Hinckley, Utah to Apostle Arza Alonzo Hinckley and Rose May Robinson Hinckley. She graduated from BYU in 1920 and taught English and Home Economics at Snow College before marrying Franklin Badger, farmer and rancher of Holden, Millard County, Utah in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 26, 1929. They were active members of the LDS Church where Afton served in many postions, along with her involvement as a Daughter of the Utah Pioneers.

She is survived by her children, George H. of Salt Lake; Rosemary Goodwin of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Franklin A. of Sandy; and Jessie Marker of Salt Lake. She has 23 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 1990 at 10 am in the Larkin Mortuary Chapel, 260 East South Temple Street, where friends may call on Monday evening between 6 and 8 pm and on Tuesday one hour prior to the services.
