Ann Bellin, 86, Casco, passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at Rennes Health Care. She was born Oct. 13, 1923, to the late Ida (Gellin) and (Wencil) James Hoffman in Luxemburg, Wis. She married Wilbur Bellin on Nov. 25, 1943, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Luxemburg. He preceded her in death May 1, 2000.
Because her father died when she was six, and her mother was unable to care for her, she was raised at the Guardian Angel Boarding School from seven years old to 16. Ann often spoke of her experiences at the boarding school. It was a tough time for her, but when she looked back in her adult years, she knew it was the best thing for her. She was cared for by the nuns and protected from many social ills that could have befallen her. They taught her so very much. She also learned firsthand how much little possessions really mean to anyone who has lived with few clothes and no toys. But she had a home, was well-fed and schooled.
Because it was not mandatory to attend high school at that time, she worked at Bellin Hospital and St. Vincent to receive vocational training. After this schooling, she worked at Algoma Plywood where she met Wilbur. They were married on Thanksgiving Day, 1943. Along with farming, she worked at Larsen Canning Company and then returned to Algoma Plywood for a number of years.
Ann was a faithful member of the Rosary Society of Holy Trinity Parish where she worked with the crew serving many funeral meals. Her true love and dedication was to the Senior Meal Site at Luxemburg, where she worked side-by-side with Marge Buresh and Rosella Vincent. Ann also served on the Board of Aging Resoures and encouraged people to utilize the programs. She received a commendation award for her dedicated volunteering for the county. In the end, it was this program that returned her good actions by helping her.
She loved to sew. She made many quilts, but had one yet to complete. Her most satisfying accomplishment was to mend blue jeans. She saved many a pair for her grandsons over the years. As is true of most mothers, Ann loved family. Having had no family as a child, she was determined to have large celebrations for her children. Holidays meant large meals with all the trimmings and lots and lots of dirty dishes. All of us would chip in to get the job done. She was a person of hospitality who loved caring for others. No one visited the farm or the home on Pleasant Road and left without being fed, if she could possibly help it. Mom needed to share. She had many friends because of it.
Ann is survived by her children, David (Pam) Bellin, Emily (Ron) Rueckert, Lorna Bellin (Ron Vincent), Mary (Len) Schanilec; grandchildren, Dean (Maureen) Bellin, Curt (Julie) Bellin, Michael Vincent, Joseph (Tavia) Vincent, Christopher (Kim) Vincent, Heather Vincent, Kate (Erik) Larrison, Connie (Dan) Stillwell, Jennifer Bellin; great-grandchildren, Amanda Kunesh, Caitlin Vincent, Trey Vincent, Baby (Chris and Kim) Vincent, April (Frank) Heller, Angel (David) Farrington; great-great-grandchildren, Jazzi Farrington, Reese Farrington, Abbie Heller, Amber Heller, and Adam Heller; goddaughter, Sharon Ettien; and many nieces and nephews who were very supportive and loving to Mom.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Emil and Zoia Bellin; two brothers, Earl (Betty) Hoffman and Jim Hoffman; a sister, Evelyn (Anton) Daul; two brothers-in-law, Emery (Magdulen) Bellin and Donald (Marie and Debbie) Bellin; two sisters-in-law, Beulah (William) Monfils and Eunice (George) Wautlet; two nephews, Donald (Janice) Daul and Anthony Daul; a niece, Beverly Fisk; a great-nephew, Jason Daul; great-great-nephew, Tyler DeNoble.
Friends may call at Wiesner-Massart, Casco, on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again Thursday at the funeral home until 10 a.m. Rosary 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral Thursday 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Casco, with Fr. Milton Suess officiating. Entombment in Shrine of Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
Thank you to Manor Care East Nursing Home and Rennes Nursing Home for their care. Also, to Carol Patterson and Rose Sheehy of Kewaunee County Social Services for all their help and guidance. A special thank you to Green Bay Oncology, especially Dr. Volk and his staff for all they did for Mom. Thanks to their care, Mom survived two bouts of non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Thank you also to Dr. Quidzinski and the staffs at Luxemburg Clinic and Aurora, and Dr. Araujo of Advanced Pain Management. We were blessed with a great team of professionals.
After years of illness and little complaint, Mom succumbed to congestive heart failure. Her "big heart" wore out.
And to all Mom's family and friends who prayed for her, sent cards, visited her and treasured her love and friendship, we can't thank you enough. Your care and concern for Mom personified the Catholic teaching of "corporal works of mercy." Your kindness means a lot.
