MRS. IDA HULTGREN OF VARNA SUMMONED
Mrs. Ida Hultgren, age 87, passed away at her home early Thursday morning, September 19, 1940. She had been in failing health for some time, but was bedfast only one week. During her illness she was tenderly cared for by her daughter, Ellen, who was with her day and night until the end. The last week relatives and friends came in to assist her in every way they could.
Mrs. Hultgren was born in Sweden, June 15, 1853, and came to America when she was twenty years old. On February 25, 1891, she was married to Nels Hultgren, who preceded her in death July 14, 1936.
She became a member of the First Lutheran Church of Varna shortly after her arrival in America, and has since belonged to this church, with the exception of five years, when the family lived around Wenona, IL, and joined the church there.
Besides her daughter, Ellen, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Anna Crone of Wenona, and three brothers, Axel and Aaron Lindstrom of Varna and C. L. Lindstrom of Chicago, besides a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the First Lutheran Church, the Rev. Carl Olson speaking in the English language, and Rev. K. A. Nilsson of Rock Island,a close friend of the family, spoke in Swedish.
Mauritz Stromgren, a nephew, sang two of her favorite songs, accompanied at the piano by Miss Florence Gustafson.
The pall bearers who were all nephews of Mrs. Hultgren, were: Grant Crone, Guy, Rudolph, Henry, Columbus and Charles Lindstrom.
The floral tributes were beautiful.
Interment was in the Salem Cemetery (First Lutheran Cemetery #1) beside her husband.
A. C. Lindbloom had charge of the funeral arrangements.
