Elizabeth was the daughter of William and Ann Mary (Clark) Bonnett. The Bonnett family relocated from England to Orleans Co., New York sometime between 1856 and 1859. Elizabeth married Ira Maxim by 1865. They resided in Gaines in Orleans County and had three sons. After Ira's death in 1873, Elizabeth remained in Gaines until at least 1915. Around 1881, she married James Doherty, a Civil War veteran born in Ireland, they had a daughter. James died in 1919 and by 1920 Elizabeth was living in Spencerport, Monroe Co., New York.
