Mrs. Mary Murphy Adams, age 90, a life-long resident of Bartow County, was called home to the Lord on November 17, 2011, while her loving daughters stood by her side.
She was born on June 3rd, 1921 to the late Tom Murphy and Annie Ward Murphy of Bartow County. Mrs. Adams was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Adairsville. She was a humble, caring woman who selflessly gave of her time and resources. Her greatest joy was her family, to whom she was fiercely devoted. She possessed an unsurpassed work ethic and used her drive and determination to serve those in need. Her love for laughter made her a joy to be around. Mary was preceded in death by her lovingly, devoted husband of 49 years, George Adams; her elder brother, James Murphy; elder sister, Willie Murphy Oates; and younger brother, Woodrow Murphy.
She is survived by her eldest daughter, Ann Adams Greene and her husband, Richard, of Cartersville; her youngest daughter, Pat Adams Wood and her husband, Edward, of Shannon; eldest sister, Martha Murphy Wilkey of Senoia; her five grandchildren, Brad Greene, and his wife Dawn, of Cartersville; Lori Greene Mitchell, and her husband, Billy, of Cartersville; Suzanne Wood Shuibat and her husband, Husam, of Shannon; Kris Wood and his wife, Jessica, of Greenville, KY; and Jennifer Greene Truelove and her husband, Zach, of Cumming; 11 great-grandchildren, Adam, Matthew, and Addie Greene; Holly, Sophie, and Myles Mitchell; Ayyoob and Abdul-Rahman Shuibat; and Patrick, Lily, and Nicholas Wood. In addition, she is survived by various nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 20, 2011, at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home with Rev. John Agnew officiating. Interment will follow in Connesena Baptist Church Cemetery, Kingston. Pallbearers will include Brad Greene, Richard Greene, Billy Mitchell, Cory Matthews, Zach Truelove, and Adam Greene.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.
