OBIT:
Rachel Adams, daughter of Samuel and Elenor Pond, was born Sept. 30, 1839, and passed away July 3, 1932, aged 92 years, nine months, and three days. She was the last member of a pioneer family. On March 28, 1858, she was united in marriage to James Adams, who preceded her in death several years ago. This union was blessed with nine children, four of whom are living, namely: Mrs. Liza Walker and Thomas Adams of Urbana, Mrs. Jennie Cooper of West Liberty, and William Adams, of Bellefontaine. She also leaves 14 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and a host of friends.
She was united with the Amanda Baptist Church in Allen County, Ohio in early life, removing her membership to the Kingscreek Baptist Church when coming to Champaign County to make her home.
Grandma Adams (as she was familiarly known) was unassuming in her manners, never appearing to be more than she really was, but every action disclosed the gold of her character and won one to her by her true goodness. As a citizen she was loved and respected by all who knew her. As a church member she was loyal and true. As a christian she had a sweet peace of heart, that made her love all the beautiful world, which was exemplified in her love for flowers and little children. She was affectionate and tireless in her devotion to her children. She loved them with a true mother's love.
For several years she had been an invalid, and was tenderly cared for by her children, who did everything loving hands could do to make her comfortable and relieve her suffering. In the quiet Sunday evening with her loved ones near her, this much beloved Mother passed through the Gates of Pearl, to join the kindred spirits of those who had gone before. Lonely and sad the home since mother has gone. But to a brighter home than ours, Since Heaven is what she won.
Interment will be made in the cemetery adjoining the Kingscreek Baptist Church.
