Margaret P. Crawford

Margaret Lucile Prince Crawford, 81, died at home on November 11, 2005 following a lengthy illness.
Born September 26, 1924 in Godfrey, Morgan County, to the late Annie Mae and Oscar Guy Prince, she attended grade school in Godfrey and graduated from Madison High School.
She was a 1946 graduate of Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville and received a B.S. degree in Home Economics.
While working as a Home Demonstration Agent for the Cooperative Extension Service in Pike County, Georgia, she met and married Paul Augustus Crawford Jr. and they made their home in Athens.
Mrs. Crawford's subsequent professional career included employment with the Clarke County Department of Family and Children's Services, and some time as a substitute teacher in Clarke County schools before going to the Social Security Administration in the mid-1960s to help institute the Medicare program.
In 1968 she was offered the position of Patient Coordinator at Athens Heritage Nursing Home, where she worked until her retirement in 1991.
Mrs. Crawford is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marianne and David Hale; a granddaughter, Catherine Adair Hale; two sisters, Lautrelle Prince Love, Riverside, Rhode Island, and Winifred Prince Helmly of Athens, several nieces, great nieces, and her caregivers/companions Dietra Barnes, Tiffany Cooper, Martha Nunally and Lashaunda Lindsey.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Paul A. Crawford Jr., and a sister, Annie Maude Prince Daniel of Madison.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, EAST. Rev. Grady Wigley officiated. Interment was Wednesday, November 16 at 11 a.m. at Madison City Cemetery.
