Mary Said was born on May 6,1807 in Gallatin, Kentucky, to Thomas Said and Anna Harris.

She married Thomas Furnish, son of James Furnish and Esseignor Asinor Wells, on September 29,1824,in Gallatin, Kentucky. They had 12, children; Sorelda Jane(1825), Lenor Ann(1827), Emily Etta(1829), Nancy Ellen(1831), Mary Jane(1833), James Thomas(1836), John Allen(1838), William Henry(1842), Robert Samuel(1844), Benjamin Wells(1848) Francis Marion(1852) and Lorenda Angelina(1854).

In 1850 they were living in Brandon, Jackson Co, Iowa. In 1860, 1870, & 1880 they were in Brown Co. Kansas.

During the Civil War four of her sons were in the service; John Allen, William Henry, Robert Samuel and Benjamin Wells. John Allen and William Henry were taken prisoner at Chickamauga, GA. Mary did a lot of worrying during the war, But they all finally made it home.

Mary lost two of her children before 1865; Sorelda Jane died in 1827 at the age of two, Mary Jane died in 1861 at the age of 28.

On April 21, 1884, Thomas died in Morrill, Brown Co, Kansas. Mary died on July 1, 1893, in Sedan, Kansas.
