Mildred I. Addington, 86, Tipton, died at 12:19 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at St. Joseph Hospital, Kokomo. She was born on June 15, 1921 in Portland, Indiana to Charles and Anna Mae (Ferrel) Wheat and adopted later by Dr. Jesse and Mabel (Hiester) Nixon.

Mildred was a devoted and dedicated mother and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tipton where she was active in choir and Women's Association and served as chairman of Westminster Circle. She graduated from Portland High School in 1940 where she was active in choral and musical programs. She worked at the Tipton Telephone Company for 26 years, retiring in 1987.

Survivors include her son, Forest (and Linda) Addington of Clovis, California and a daughter Catherine (and William) Franklin of Indianapolis. She has five grandchildren Dan (Brita) Addington, Costa Mesa, CA, Rashelle (Scott) Nelson, Valencia, CA, Jarrod (Amber) Addington, Springville, UT, Bethany Addington, Montevideo, Uruguay, and Keith Addington, Fayette, NC, and eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace Sommer of Cincinnati, Ohio and a brother, Bill Wheat of Anderson, Indiana. She was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 12, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home in Tipton with Revs. Jack Masters and Linda Philabaun presiding. Burial will be in Green Park Cemetery in Portland. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 11 at the funeral home.
