William D. Gatton, 88, died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday (July 8, 2001) at the Norwood Nursing Center. Mr. Gatton had been employed as an emergency medical technician with the Zollner Corporation, Fort Wayne, for 21 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

He was born April 17, 1913, in Fort Wayne to William C. and Stella B. Offenloch Gatton. He married Martha Snyder on Sept. 10, 1932, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fort Wayne. His wife died Feb. 28, 1997.

Survivors include four sons, William F. Gatton, John Gatton and Geoffrey L. Gatton, all of Fort Wayne,and Michael J. Gatton, Carmel; four daughters, Mrs. Joe (Judith) Landgraff, Kendallville, Mrs. Steve (Diane) Shoptaw, Huntington, Teresa Gatton, Worthington, Ohio, and Mary M. Gatton, Shalotte, N.C.; a brother, Richard Gatton, Fort Wayne; two sisters, May Sauer and Eleanor Doehla, both of Fort Wayne; 22 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin G. Gatton; a brother, Charles Gatton; three sisters, Gertrude Hazelet, Rosalie Voudouris and Helen Doughman; and three great-grandchildren.

Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m., at the Hart Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry St., with Father Ronald Rieder officiating.

Burial will be at the Greenlawn Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Preferred memorials are to the Norwood Nursing Center Activity Department or SS. Peter and Paul Food Pantry, in care of Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN 46750.
