Margaret, Maurer

Margaret Maurer, age 90, a Manitowoc resident died Friday afternoon May 1, 2015 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc.

Margaret was born on November 25, 1924 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late John and Margaret (Koch) Schlei. She graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1942. On January 22, 1945 she married Elroy Maurer in Manitowoc. In January the couple celebrated 70 years of marriage. Margaret was employed with the French Slipper Shop for many years, then worked at J.C. Penny and Mirro Aluminum Company. She was a co-founder and charter member of the Catholic Junior League. She was also a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Margaret enjoyed bowling, golfing, dancing and gambling. She also loved to travel.

Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Elroy Maurer, Manitowoc, her children; Mike and Flossy (Kenny) Maurer, Marinette, Steve and Denise (Edwards) Maurer, Manitowoc, Debra and David Kubichek, Manitowoc, her grandchildren; Libby Maurer, Madison, Dennis and Jodi Maurer, Manitowoc, Jeff and Cindy Kubichek, St. Nazianz, Drew Maurer, Alaska, three great grandchildren; Sophie, Lilianna and Lilly Rain, her-in-laws, Wally and Jerri Maurer, Donna Maurer and Donna Schlei. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends also survive.

Margaret was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters-in-law; Arthur and Cecella Schlei, George Schlei and William and Jane Schlei, two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law: William Maurer, Kenneth and Lois Maurer, father-in-law and mother-in-law: Walter and Elsie Maurer.

The Family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Dave Pleier. Burial of the cremated remains will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc at a later date.
