James E. Abner, 61, of Beattyville, brother of Gerald and Bethel Abner of Winchester, died Tuesday night at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington after a long illness.
He was a native of Lee County, a retired house painter for the University of Kentucky, and a veteran of 2 1/2 years service in World War II.
Other survivors include his widow, Mrs. Anna Gumm Abner; a son, David Paul Abner, Beattyville; two grandchildren; two other brothers, Frank Abner, Beattyville, and Sam Abner, Michigan; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Jo Marshall, St. Helen, and Mrs. Loraine Marshall, Primrose, and two step-daughters, Mrs. Bruce Davis and Mrs. Jimmy Spencer, of Beattyville.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Newman Funeral Home in Beattyville. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Friday.
