WALTER HORST AUGUSTIN of Altamonte Springs, FL died at home. He was the son of Horst Walter and Sophia (Hedrich) Augustin. He attended Lane Technical High, graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology, embraced lifelong learning including three Master's Degrees, from the Naval Postgraduate School, the Marine Corps War College and the National Defense University, plus a graduate certificate from San Diego State University. He attended and taught courses at the University of Central Florida. Wally was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served as an aviation supply officer and acquisition professional retiring as a Colonel. He served in the Senior Executive Service as the Technical Director of Naval Air Warfare Systems Command, Training Systems Department from 2007-2012. Surviving are his wife, Maria Elena (Melvin) Ausustin (married October 27, 1980 in Chicago); children, daughter, Caitlin Marina Augustin of Miami, FL; son, Aidan Liam Augustin of Gainesville, FL; mother, Sophia (Simon) Jankovics of Schaumburg, IL and siblings, Hilda Carey of Schaumburg and Joseph Orawczyk of Yermo, CA. A Funeral Mass will be held April 21, 2012 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Orlando, FL. Augustin will be interned at a later date. Published in the Orlando Sentinel on April 19, 2012
