Jerry was a fun-loving, respectful man who loved life and his friends. He graduated from Penobscot Valley High School in Howland, where he played soccer and basketball. It was in high school that he first developed a love of flying. He graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y., with a dual major mechanical and nautical engineering, then applied to the U.S. Navy flight school in Lakehurst, N.J., earning his wings in May 2006. He was completing training on the E-2C Hawkeye turboprop plane when his plane crashed shortly after takeoff from the USS Harry S. Truman off the coast of North Carolina.
