Dr. Henly Wheaton Allen was born on the 28th of December 1838 in Oswego, Illinois to the parents of Alexander Pope Allen and his wife Cornelia Marie Hayden (Allen) He was born into a family with five siblings, Gay Spencer, Ophelia Eldred, William W., Cornelia and Sarah Ida.

He married his wife Meldred Melvina McNeel on July 10th 1860 in Fond du Lac Wisconsin. Her brother was one of the leading senators and also a doctor in Fond du Lac. Together they had thirteen Children. Mason Minor 1861-1844, Alameda 'Media' Elizabeth 1863-1944, Dr. Orfila James 'O J' 1864-1919, Justus Alexander 'Jud' 1867-1880, Arthur Henry 'Artis' 1868-1955, Charles Ellery 1873-1948, Edward Albert 1872-1964, Millie 1876-1880, Daisy B 1878-1947, Henly Wheaton jr 1881-1963, Francis 'Fannie' 1883-1899 and Guy Leroy 1885-1941. (Children of Henly and Mildred stats: Millie to be only 6 years old, Julius 14 and Mason passed when his horse was crossing a creek, fell on him trampling him in the head causing a blood vessel to rupture in his head. Some became doctors or druggists most fared well and some moved to other states)

Dr. Allen was born in Illinois and then after being in several dif. Medical schools in various states like Iowa, Wisconsin and Colorado. He graduated from Medical College in Iowa, then at Reokuk of Doctor of Medicine, he finally made a home in Colorado, first in Blackhawk, then Valmont and finally in Boulder, Colorado where he lived on Pearl Street.

He passed the 14th of February 1920 at the age of 81 in Boulder, Colorado, He outlived his wife by five years. They are both buried in Columbia Cemetery with some of their children.

Pioneer Physician. He bought the first Drug Store and Medicines in 1865. Started a Drug Store in Valmont and in 1876 opened a store in Boulder County. Was a Proprietor of such a enterprise for almost 30 years. He did not sell out until 1893. He bought the first printing press into the county, and publishing The Valmont Bulletin for a year. For 12 years he was the efficient surveyor in the region. For many years he served ably as a county Physician and for two terms and held the office of county coroner. Dr. Allen has been usually progressive to the developments of local industries and resources . He entered Rush Medical college where he took a course of lectures, then was beginning the practice of his chosen profession in Royalton, Wisconsin (Prob. where he met his wife) In 1864 he came to this state, making a part of his journey thru Omaha, Nebraska by horse-team and thence proceeding in a large company, and on account of the Indians, from Ft. Kearney, Ne. on these being over one hundred persons in a caravan, at first the doctor settled in Black Hawk, Colorado and practiced medicine, then onto Valmont until the Centennial year, but in 1865 he came to Boulder to practice medicine and has been a resident ever since. He has had a very successful life and is second to none in the Boulder area as a practitioner in his profession. HIs office was at the corner Pearl Street and 44th street.
