The entire chapel (2 end walls and 6 side windows)was done in hand blown sheet glass (Blenko Glass Company, Milton West Virginia.) The 105 hues and vibrant colors begin with pastel shades at the bottom (for a view of the ocean), and progress into darker shades nearest the top. The chapel is possibly one of the most photographed chapels on the West Coast. Bette moved her studio to Hayden Lake (Coeur d'Alene) Idaho (1975.) She continued to create stained glass windows for the Playboy Clubs nationwide and many of the projects that some thought too difficult to produce. She made stained glass windows for dog houses for a hollywood star or two. In her retirement(late 1980's), she taught stained glass classes in painting, lead Came, copper foil, faceted Glass, etching, glue chipping and other aspects of the trade. She was considered by many to be one of the old masters in this art. At Pepperdine University's 30 year Founder's Day Convocation (September 24, 2003), Bette and Robert were honored with a bouquet of flowers and a plaque recognizing "The artistic talent and craftsmanship" ,"For making Stauffer Chapel one of the most recognizable landmarks on the California coastline." In the year of her death (stroke,2004), Pepperdine University began a Christmas ornament series. One of the first ornaments is in honor of the Stauffer Chapel and the artistry of Bette.
