Jesse Cook, the son of James Cook and Sarah Collis, married Roseanna Kennedy. They had two sons; Dock F. and Patterson Cook. Jesse died in the service of his country in the Civil War in 1864. At the February Term 1867 Cleveland Co. Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions, Rosanna's lawyer presented a petition for her as the widow and relict of Jesse Cook asking for a year's allowance.

Resided in Cleveland Co., NC as a farmer prior to enlisting in Cleveland Co. at age 30, April 19, 1862, for the war. Reported absent on sick furlough in June-August and November-December 1862. Reported in hospital at Richmond, Virginia, Dec.1-2,1863. Returned to duty on an unspecified date. Killed at Talley's Mill, Virginia, May 10, 1864.
