Rev. Robert E. Seals , 78, Kansas City, KS, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2005, at his home. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 26 at Merriam Christian Church. The family requests no flowers and suggests contributions to the scholarship fund at Merriam Christian Church, 9401 Johnson Dr., Merriam, KS, 66203. Bob was born May 4, 1927, in Des Moines, IA. He was ordained as a minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) on June 29, 1947, at Indianola Heights Christian Church, Des Moines, IA. He served in churches in Bondurant, IA, Wray, CO, Drummond, OK, Central Park Christian Church, Topeka, Westwood Christian and Oak Grove Christian Church in Kansas City, Yates Center, KS, Lathrop, MO, and Missouri City, MO. He was a charter member of Shawnee Park Christian Church and was currently a member of Merriam Christian Church. He was a founding member and first President of the Disciples Amateur Radio Fellowship which provided communications to Missionaries throughout the world. He was an amateur radio operator, call letters WØFLQ. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, was involved in the Man to Man program at the Lansing Penitentiary, was Chaplain for the Johnson County Sheriff's Dept., served as interim Director of Tall Oaks Conference Center in Linwood, KS, and emceed bluegrass festivals. He was involved in Youth Friends, tutoring reading at Oak Grove Elementary and read to the blind at Audio Reader in Lawrence. He was preceded in death by son Robert Seals , Jr., grandson Chris Rowland, and two brothers, John and Donald. He married his childhood sweetheart, Opal Reynolds, on July 20, 1947, in Des Moines, IA. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Jim Seals and wife Lalie, and John Seals and wife Debbie; daughters Catherine Seals , Connie Rowland and husband David, and Caroline Seals and husband Clyde Schwanke; grandchildren Dustin, Hayley, Clayton (Clayboy), Ryan, Amanda, Jennifer, Missy, David, Mike, Carl, Sarah, Caitlin (Katydid), Cameron, Abbi, and Elishia; sisters-in-law Darlene Weidman and JoAnn Seals ; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
