AUBURNDALE — Christ Wellhoefer, 78, route 1, Auburndale, died following a lingering illness at 8:30 a.m. today at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Rozellville. The Rev. Myron Sordahl will officiate, and burial will be made in Hillside cemetery in Marshfield.
The body will repose at the Hansen Funeral Home in Marshfield from Wednesday evening until 11 a.m. Friday, and then at the church.
Mr. Wellhoefer was born Dec. 9, 1886, in Germany, came to the United States at the age of 17 and then worked on farms in Washington and Dodge Counties. His marriage to Anna M. Kurtz took place Nov. 5, 1913, at Ackerville.
After their marriage the couple farmed in the town of Day, Marathon County, until their retirement in 1955. Since then they had made their home with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Ohm, in the town of Auburndale.
Mr. Wellhoefer was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and manager of the Grand Meadow Dairy Co-op cheese factory for many years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Ohm, route 1, Auburndale; a son, Walter M. Wellhoefer, route 3, Stratford; three sisters, Mrs. Tony (Eva) Mayer, Milwaukee; Mrs. Barbara Wolfgang, and Miss Tina Wellhoefer, Germany; a brother, Fred Wellhoefer, Hartford; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
