DAVID JOSEPH METZENDORF

WARREN – David Joseph Metzendorf, 69, died peacefully at the Cleveland Clinic on Friday, July 29, 2016.

David was born March 19, 1947, in Warren. He was the son of Joseph D. and Florence C. (Sager) Metzendorf, graduating in 1965 from Warren G. Harding High School.

David married Linda J. Metzendorf on June 24, 1966, in Rogers City, Mich. Together, they had two children, Christine Metzendorf-Bullard (Michael) and James Metzendorf (Janna Barber), both of Warren.

David was retired from Delphi Packard Electric, where he worked as senior commercial photographer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War. He was extraordinarily active within the community. He was a lifelong member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church in Warren, where, as part of the church’s senior leadership, he served as treasurer and produced their weekly radio Sunday school program.

David was recording engineer and audio director for the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, beginning his affiliation with the organization in 1971. He was also the announcer for Youngstown Symphony Orchestra broadcasts on WYSU-FM. Additionally, Mr. Metzendorf was a member of the National Packard Museum, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of the Packard Motor Car Company, Packard Electric, and the Packard family. He had served several terms on their board of directors.

He loved music, photography, electronics, and spending time with his family. He was a licensed amateur radio operator, call sign KD8JJ.

David is survived by his daughter, Christine (Michael K.) Bullard and son James Metzendorf (Janna Barber), both of Warren; brother Paul (Barb) Metzendorf; sister Mary Ellen (Fred) Pilgrim; and a grandson, Alexander James Metzendorf. He also had three stepgrandchildren, Krista, Nicole, and Michael L. Bullard.

Both of his parents, as well as his wife of 48 years, Linda, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 N. Park Ave., with Pastor David Black officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 1, at the funeral home.

David will be laid to rest next to his wife at Sager Memorial Park Cemetery in Bristolville.

The family requests that material contributions be made to the Calvary Presbyterian Church, 119 Laird Ave. NE, Warren, OH 44483, in his memory.
