Funeral services for Mr. McNeely will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2008 in the chapel of Haggard Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Trinity Cemetery, off of Highway 49 E, near Jefferson.
Mr. McNeely was born July 11, 1927 in Smithland, Texas to Virginia Taylor McNeely & Bailey McNeely. Mr. McNeely was a lifelong resident of Smithland & owned & operated McNeely Grocery for 45 years. He served as a County Commissioner for 16 years and was a lifelong member of Smithland United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Jefferson Masonic Lodge, Scottish & York Rite bodies and was a Shriner. Mr. McNeely served his country in the U. S. Navy in World War II. He was also a member of the American Legion & served on the Marion County Appraisal District Review Board for a number of years. Mr. McNeely was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Becca Anderson and James Duvall.
Mr. McNeely is survived by his wife, Margie, of Smithland, TX; daughters, Susan Anderson & Brenda Kay Duvall, both of Smithland, TX; sister, Gloria McNeely of Smithland, TX; brothers, Larry McNeely of Jefferson, TX and Wendell McNeely of Marshall, TX; 2 grandchildren, Samantha Anderson & Marcey Wells; and 2 great-grandchildren, Courtney & Dyllin Wells.
Pallbearers will be Johnny McNeely, Ronnie McNeely, Rebel McNeely, Larry Hazel, Matthew McNeely, Anthony Hamm, Alan Biddy & Reps Biddy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Becca Anderson Scholarship or to the charity of choice.
