Retired Farmer of Millersburg Dies

Illness of Several Months Is Fatal to John Nowels, 80

John Nowels, 80, retired farmer, died at his home in Millersburg last midnight following an illness of several months with complications. Mr. Nowels was a native and lifelong resident of Holmes county.

Born Oct. 19, 1855, Mr. Nowels was a son of the late David and Rebecca Nowels. In 1883 he was married to Clara Arnold to which which union eight children were born, six of whom survive. Mr. Nowels was a member of the Millersburg Presbyterian church.

Surviving are the widow, three sons, Sylvester of Orrville, Clifford of Clark and Earl of Danville; three daughters, Mrs. Bert [Bertha] Walters and Mrs. Blake [Sarah] Walters, both of Millersburg, and Mrs. Lyman Swelgart [Jessie] of Orrville. Fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday in charge of Rev. D. M. Haynes, with burial in the Millersburg cemetery. Arrangements were not complete today.

He also had 14 step-siblings by David's first, second and third wives. They were: Matilda, Aaron Nowels; Sarah (Nowels) Paxton; Governor Nowels, Nancy, Martin, Lucinda, Peter, Stephen, Mary Jane, James, Elizabeth and Catherine.]
