"Funeral services for Herman Epperson, 106, of 306 East Lafayette Street, Jefferson, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Macedonia Baptist Church in Jefferson. Burial will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery under the direction of the Lewis & Walker Funeral Home.
Mr. Epperson died of natural causes at 2:55 p.m. Friday at his home. A lifelong resident of the area, he was born May 6, 1866, in Jefferson. He attended Jefferson public schools. Mr. Epperson was employed as a refuse excavator.
Survivors include seven sons, Herman Epperson Jr., of Los Angeles, California, and Jimmie Epperson, James Epperson, Alious Epperson, Robert Epperson, Raymond Epperson and Clifford Epperson, all of Dallas; three stepsons, Gabe Burton, Jessie Jackson and Lee Ike Fisher; one stepdaughter, Carolyn Fisher; and seven sisters, Janie, Mammie, Mattie, Louise, and Sally, all of Jefferson, and Dorothy Mae and Sarah, both of Dallas."

- The obituary and the data on the census records reflected that Herman Epperson was 106 years old at the time of his death. {In contrast with this data, it was reported on the death certificate that he was born in 1886.} Furthermore, it should be noted that the earliest census records reported that he was born about 1866. Therefore, a more accurate birth year of 1866 is reflected in this memorial.
