ANSWERED THE LAST SUMMONS
AUGUST LADE, SR., DIES AT HIS HOME AFTER SHORT ILLNESS

C. F. August Lade, a highly respected citizen of our little city, died at his home, on Mill street, last Saturday evening at ten o'clock, after an illness of only a few weeks' duration.
Carl Frederick August Lade was born August 19, 1834, at Uchtdorf, Greifenhaugner Circuit, Prussia. At the age of 19 years he emigrated to America with his father, Michael Lade, landing at New York in the year 1854 and procceding to Wisconsin the same year. The family finally settled in the town of Auburn, where the deceased bought a farm in 1860 and resided there until eight years ago, when he retired from farm life and come to reside here. He was enlisted in Company H, First Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, in 1863 and served until the close of the war in 1865.
On April 29, 1856, he was married to Magdalena Walthers, who with the following children survives him: Mrs. Sophia Kuehl and Frank Lade, who reside here. August Lade of Town Auburn, Fred Lade of Eden, Mrs. Wm. O'Brien of New London, Mrs. Louis Meyer of Withee, Mrs. August Miller, Mrs. Helen Weddig and William Lade of Fond du Lac. He is also survived by two brothers, Fred Lade of Clintonville and Frank Lade of Minot, North Dakota, and one sister, Mrs. Wilhelmina Mueller of Fond du Lac, and by thirty-seven grand children. A brother-in-law, John Walthers, resides at Loyal.
The funeral was held at ten o'clock on Wednesday morning from the German Reformed church. Interment was held in the Auburn cemetery. Rev. William Zenk officiated during the services in the church, and at the grave the members of Isaac Hendricks post, G. A. R. officiated at the military ceremonies over the remains of their deceased comrade.
The pall bearers were: Peter Schrooten, Charles Burnett, August Treiber, Otto Dickman, Leopold Schimelpfenig and August Koch.

On June 8, 1865 he transferred to Co. U, 3rd Wisc. Infantry.
