Mr. Glen E. Cluck, 89, of 167 North Oller Avenue, Waynesboro, PA, passed away at 7:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 16, 2010 in Waynesboro Hospital. He was critically ill for the past month.
Born August 18, 1920 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Lawrence J. and Mabel C. (Benchoff) Cluck. He was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area.
Mr. Cluck was a graduate of Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1939. He later attended Mississippi Southern College in Hattisburg, MI.
He served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater with the 78th Infantry Division.
He and his wife of over 44 years, Mrs. Margaret L. "Peggy" (Metz) Cluck, were married June 12, 1965. They moved to their present residence in 1972.
In his early life, Mr. Cluck was employed as timekeeper at Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro. Following his discharge from the service, he worked as secretary and salesman at Waynesboro Auto Parts from 1946-1961. On October 20, 1961, he was appointed acting postmaster until December 2, 1963 when he was appointed post master of Waynesboro. He retired August 29, 1980.
He was a member of Church of the Apostles, United Church of Christ, Waynesboro, where he served as usher, on the worship and finance committees, as deacon, served on consistory, as consistory president and as elder. He also was a member of Acacia Lodge #586 F. & A.M., Waynesboro, Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Temple of Harrisburg, Waynesboro Shrine Club where he served as President in 1967, B.P.O. Elks Lodge #731, Waynesboro, South Chapter AARP #2977, Waynesboro and National AARP.
Mr. Cluck was a life member of William Max McLaughlin VFW Post #695 and Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15, both of Waynesboro, where he served as Past Commander from 1953-1954, served on the board, was president of the board and as chaplain for five years.
He was a member of National Association of Postmasters, National League of Postmasters of the United States serving as President from 1965-1966. He was awarded Postmaster of the Year in 1974 from the PA Branch of the National League of Postmasters of the United States.
Mr. Cluck served as Deputy District Commander of the 22nd District of the American Legions which consisted of York, Adams and Franklin Counties. He was a member of A.T.H. &L. Fire Company, Waynesboro, where he served as trustee, recording secretary, treasurer and as president. He was a Fire Policeman where he served as secretary and sergeant of PA Fire Police and Franklin County Fire Police and the Chiefs Association, where he served as President from 1959-1961, 1963, 1964 and 1966-1975. He was a life member of 78th Division of Veterans Association and a member of the Waynesboro Lions Club where he served as President and Deputy District Governor from 1970-1971, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He served on the board of Antietam Humane Society.
He served on the Greater Waynesboro Chamber of Commerce, serving as President from 1969-1970, United Way of Waynesboro Board of Directors, serving as Treasurer of the Board, Waynesboro Welfare Association Board of Directors, serving as President from 1982-1985, Waynesboro Motor Club Board of Directors continuing to serve after it merged with Chambersburg to become South Penn Motor Club, Citizens Advisory Board of Waynesboro appointed by Town Council and Grand Marshall of Waynesboro Memorial Day Parade from 1950-1964.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a number of cousins.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, March 19, 2010, in the Church of the Apostles, United Church of Christ, 336 Barnett Avenue, Waynesboro, with Pastor Michael Cromer, officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. Masonic services will be conducted by the members of Acacia Lodge #586 at 11:00 A.M., Friday, in the church
