OBITUARY OF GRANDMA CLOYD
Grandma Cloyd - Sarah B. Therman-Cloyd - was born October 22, 1832, in Cumberland County, Kentucky. She died at her home in Cowley County, Kansas, on Monday at 8 o'clock a.m., July 28, 1902, aged 69 years, 9 months and 6 days.
She was married to George W. Cloyd November 26, 1849. To this union were born eight children, three sons and five daughters, three of whom, one son, who died in infancy, and two daughters who died after they were grown and married, preceded her to the spirit land.
She removed with her family to Sumner county, Kansas in 1879, thence to Cowley county in 1881, where she lived until death came. She leaves an aged companion, two sons and three daughters, several grandchildren and many kind friends and acquaintances to mourn her loss.
She united with the Church of Christ several years ago and lived a loyal, consecrated christian life to the day of her death. Her noble christian character commanded the respect of all who knew her. The sympathy and interest manifested by the entire community in which she lived were tributes seldom given and never better deserved. On Tuesday, July 29, her remains were followed by a large procession of sympathizing relatives and friends to the North Cedar Creek cemetery. After a short memorial service, conducted by E. Miller, her body was laid in the tomb to await the resurrection of the just, "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord."
It would require many good words to describe her splendid characteristics and many tender words to express our sympathy for the bereft aged husband and family, but her "good works do follow her," which is most consoling and which victoriously swallow up the natural grief that death or separation brings to the living.
"The pall of sadness rests upon
Another home and hearth,
The angel of death has borne away
A loved one from the earth.
The dearest of all earthly gems
A mother and a wife
Has laid aside her mortal cares
And entered into life.
