born on October 9, 1922, the 5th child of Hugh and Agnes York of Liberty, Neb. She was a graduate of Barnston HS in 1940 and graduated from St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing, Lincoln, in 1943. In 1945 she met her future husband, Keith Dietrich Engelbart, and they were married on July 4, 1946. On May 6, 1947 their first child, Joseph, was born prematurely and he died on the same day. They went on to have four children, Mary Ellen (1948), Jane Ann (1952), Pamela Sue (1953), and Michael Keith (1961). Keith and Helen moved around a lot during their married life but spent many years in various cities in southern California. Helen and Keith were living in Orange, Conn. when Keith passed away on August 10, 1985. Helen moved back to southern California in 1986 and lived in Westminster, Calif. until February 2011 when she became ill and, after a number of hospitalizations, she passed away in Poway, Calif. on April 6, 2011. Helen was a devout Catholic and this was always the most important thing in her life along with her family. She wrote "It is important to me to share yourself and your material items with anyone in need but to always care for your family first. Always give unconditional love to family and friends. We never know when we will need love ourselves."
Helen is survived by her sister Elizabeth York Barton Dobenin and her husband Joseph of Weslaco, Texas, her brother-in-law William Hyberger of Beatrice, her sister-in law Maurece Engelbart of Norfolk; three daughters; Mary Steele and her husband David of Reno, Nev.; Jane Bileckyj and her husband Val of Poway, Calif.; and Pamela Randolph Baney and her husband Michael of Lincoln, and her son Michael and Brenda of Pomona. She has seven grandchildren and five Great Grandchildren.
