Winnie terTelgte, 101, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 14, 2009, under the tender, loving care of the nurses from Rocky Mountain Hospice Care and her children. She was born to Dutch immigrant parents, Altje and Ype Ypma in the Manhattan area.

Winnie grew up in the Holland Settlement and went to school on horseback as a child. She had seen many marvelous inventions in her 101 years.

She married John terTelgte in 1929 and together they lived and raised their five children, working as farmers in the Gallatin Valley. When her husband passed away in 1960, she then turned to cleaning the medical center in Manhattan and also house cleaning until she retired at the age of ninety-five. She believed in being active with work, walking and attending all the ball games of the Manhattan Tigers that she possibly could. She was also very active in the Manhattan Bible Church over the years and a faithful prayer warrior for all those she knew and loved.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; son, Edwin and her seven brothers and sisters.

Winnie is survived by her son, John (Phyllis) terTelgte, of Willow Creek; daughters, Elsie Kennedy and Florence (Dave) Spaulding, of Manhattan; Althea Dykstra, of Three Forks; and daughter-in-law, Karen terTelgte, of Columbus. Also surviving are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside Service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 18, at Meadow View Cemetery. Memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the Manhattan Bible Church in Manhattan.
