Unlike his brothers, Bertie, as he was called by his family, never served in the Royal Armed Forces.
After his father's retirement from the Army, the family moved to Guernsey, where Bert worked as Billiard Marker. On October 19, 1905 Herbert Henry Vincent married Florence Elizabeth Avis, the daughter of Edwin and Elizabeth (Gross) Avis. Their son Herbert Avis Joseph Vincent was born on the island on April 22, 1906.
On April 30, 1907 Herbert sailed from Liverpool, England to Boston, Mass on the SS. Saxonia. His final destination was Lansing, Michigan, where he would meet up with this brother-in-law Ernest Avis and his Uncle John Faut. His wife and infant son would soon join him there, with the remainder of his family traveling to Lansing in 1908 and 1909.
By 1917 Bert and Florence would settle in Detroit, Michigan, where they would live the remainder of their lives.
