HARRY WILSON RANKIN, JR.
Mr. Harry Wilson Rankin, Jr., age 80, of the Allsbrook community died Saturday, January 17, 2004 at the Loris Extended Care Facility following an illness.
Born June 18, 1923 in Loris, Mr. Rankin was the son of the late Harry Wilson Rankin, Sr. and the late Martha Brookie Allsbrook Rankin. Mr. Rankin was predeceased by his first wife of 51 years, Mrs. Esta Norris Rankin and recently by Ruby Todd Langley Rankin. Mr. Rankin received his masters degree in agricultural education from Clemson University and taught vocational agriculture at Lake View, Green Sea and Loris High Schools throughout his career retiring after 33 years. Mr. Rankin was an Army veteran of WWII as part of one of the last Horse Calvary Divisions. Mr. Rankin was also a member of the Loris First Baptist Church where he served as both a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Mr. Rankin was a loving granddaddy, enjoyed gardening and was an avid golfer.
Survivors include one son, Ross Rankin and wife Dianna of North Myrtle Beach; one daughter, Mary Esta Jacobs and husband David or Loris; two brothers, Ogden A. Rankin of Conway and Watson S. Rankin of Loris; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Rankin was predeceased by two brothers, Mr. Joseph Ross Rankin and Mr. John Alexander Rankin.
Funeral services will be Tuesday morning, January 20, at 10 a.m. from the Loris First Baptist Church with committal services following at Twin City Memorial Garden Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Drew Jackson and the Rev. Alvin Jackson. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hardwick Funeral Home. Memorial may be made to the Loris Alzheimer's Support Group, c/o Loris Healthcare System, 3655 Mitchell Street, Loris, SC 29569.
