Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at Ingram Funeral Home in Albion with Rev. Bill Rucker officiating. Burial will be in the West Village Cemetery. Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday.
Newport was born Jan. 24, 1930, in Albion, the son of Marvin and Zola (Smith) Newport.
He was a banker. He was a Korean Conflict veteran. He received a bronze star and discharged as first lieutenant.
He is survived by his mother of Grayville; four sons, Richard Newport of Tucson, Ariz., Robert Newport of Chicago, Scott Newport of Ft. Benning, Ga. and Steven Newport of Elgin; two daughters, Michelle Newport and Nicole Newport, both of Naperville: a brother, Gene Newport of Birmingham, Ala. and a grandchild.
Newport was preceded in death by his father and an infant brother.
