Maurice H. "Maurie" Kerckhove, 89, of Moline, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012, at St. Margaret's Hospital, Spring Valley, Ill.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Sacred Heart Church, Moline. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today at Rafferty Funeral Home, 2111 1st St. A, Moline, with a Christian wake service at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline, with a combined military honors conducted by the VFW Post 2153, Moline, and American Legion Post 246, Moline. Memorials can be made to Seton School or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Maurie was born May 14, 1922, in East Moline, the son of Cyriel and Alida DeBruyne Kerckhove. He married Alice Brackevelt on Oct. 19, 1946, in Moline.
Maurie was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II.
Maurie retired in 1987, after 28 years from John Deere Parts Department, East Moline.
Maurie was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Moline, life member of the VFW Post 2153, Moline, where he served as post commander, district commander and state commander, American Legion Post 246, Moline, and AM Vets Post 145, East Moline. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Alice; sons, Michael Kerckhove, Moline, Jerry Kerckhove, East Moline, Jack (Vicki) Kerckhove, East Moline, and Jim (Robin) Kerckhove, East Moline; grandchildren, Heather (Brandon) Stigner, Stephen, Kristopher, Beau and Courtney Kerckhove; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Jarrod Stigner; and a sister, Gerry Miller, Davenport. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Marcel and Julius.
