The following has been updated with information from the September 2012 Newsletter of the Dreisbach Family Association which details diligent research by some wonderful Dreisbach family members.

Johann Jacob DRESBACH was born December 7, 1750 as recorded in the Krombach Evangelical Reformed Church records at Krombach, Germany. Jacob married Magdalena Buchs in 1775 (probably March, according to their son's, Jonathan's Journal). Jacob died June 21, 1804 at Lewisburg, Northumberland Co, PA. Jacob was buried at Dreisbach Church Cemetery, Lewisburg, PA.

Jacob served in the Rev. War - PS Penn. Died later while a young man. DAR Patriot Index says, Jacob: b. ca 1764, d. 1804 PA m. Magdalena Buchs, PS PA.

Note: Past researchers have listed daughter, Hannah, b. 16 Feb 1803 with no source given. There is a Hannah b. May 1803, daughter of Jacob Dreisbach of Northampton Co., PA, who died 20 May 1873 - See FAG Memorial 61887494

His wife, Magdalena Buchs Dreisbach, died in either Colerain Twp., Ross Co. or Clear Creek Twp., Fairfield Co., OH at the home of one of her children on 15 Feb 1836.

JACOB DRESBACH'S WILL, Recorded in Northumberland Co., PA:
"In the name of God Amen, this Fifteenth Day of October in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and three, I Jacob Dreisbach of Buffaloe Township in the County of Northumberland & Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Farmer, being at present sickly & weakly in Body, but of sound disposing mind memory and understanding, thanks be to God, therefore, calling unto mind the mortality of my Body and knowing that it is appointed for all Men once to die, do make & ordain this my last Will and Testament, that is to say principally and first of all, I recommend my Soul into the hands of God who gave it, hoping through the merits of our Saviour Jesus Christ to receive Remifsion of all my sins, and an happy admifsion into the Regions of blefs and immortality; and as to my Body I recommend it to the Earth, to be Buried in a Christian like and decent manner. And touching such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to blefs me in this life, I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. In Premis. - It is my will and I do order that in the first place, all my just debts and funeral charges be paid and satisfied, after my decease by my hereinafter named Executors. Item. It is my will and I do order that my beloved wife Magdalene shall keep in her pofsefsion, all that my Plantation whereon I at present reside, and piece of Timber land and three lots of Ground in Derrs Town, in the Township of Buffaloe aforesaid, and one Lot of Ground situate in Youngmans Town in West Buffaloe Township, so long until my youngest child arrives or comes to the age of fourteen years and she remains my widow, as also so much from my farming utensils, house furniture, horses and cattle as she has need of for to keep house, and to farm or rent my aforesaid real estate as she will see cause, and from the incomes thereof to bring up and have my younger children educated like my older one, as also to pay all taxes which shall be afsefsed on the same in said time. Item. It is further my will and I do order, that as soon as my youngest child arrives or comes to the age of fourteen years, that then my aforesaid plantation and other real estate shall be sold by my herein named executors or the survivor or survivors of them, either upon public or private sale as they see best cause, provided also if my executors should see cause and that it would be for the better advantage for my children to sell my aforesaid real estate before the aforesaid time of my youngest child arriving to the aforesaid age, they are at liberty to sell the same, provided they will purchase back lands for the money for the equal use or share of all my children or each of their lawful representatives; hereby impowering and authorising my executors or the survivor or survivors of them, or in case they should be dead, then the Orphan Court of North'd County, to execute good and lawful Deed or Deeds for my aforesaid Real Estate unto the purchaser or purchasers as to vest a Fee Simple Estate in him or them. Item. It is my Will and do order that after the sale of my aforesaid Real Estate, and the money as the same becomes due, I give and bequeath the Sum of two hundred pounds from the first money paid in hands, unto my beloved wife the same to be in lieu and full for a Widow Dower of my beloved Wife, but if in case my executors should purchase back lands as aforesaid and my beloved wife, would be willing to move out with my children, and my children will give her lands or find her good and reasonable maintenance as a Dowery if she and them can agree, and then the aforesaid two hundred pounds shall be laid in lands; and then it is my will and I do order, that the aforesaid lands or the money from my real estate as the same becomes due, except the said two hundred pounds for the dowery of my beloved wife shall be equally divided amongst my thirteen children or the survivors of them or each of their representatives, provided always that my executors shall have & take due regard to deduct from each and every of my childrens or their representatives share such sums of money or other articles as I have given and advanced them in my life time, and sat down or charged them in my book, to being them upon an equal share from the whole of my estate, Item. It is my will and I do further order, that after my beloved wife gives up farming or when my real estate should be sold as aforesaid, that then my beloved wife shall have and take from my personal estate, one bed, spinning wheel, reel, one cow, and such other household furniture as she wants and has need for to keep house for herself and which I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife in lieu and full for her one third part or demand against my personal estate. And the remainder of my personal estate, that is to say, what my beloved wife has no use for to Farm as aforesaid, and when she give up farming, shall be sold upon public (vendue by my executors or either of them, and the money arrising from the Sale, shall be equally divided amongst all my children or the survivors of them or their representatives as aforesaid. And lastly I nominate and appoint my beloved wife Magdalene and my two sons, to wit, Martin & John to be executors of this my last Will and testaments hereby revoking, disanulling and marking void, all former Wills & Testament by me heretofore made. Ratifying and Confirming this and no other to be my last Will & Testament. In Witnefs whereof I the said Jacob Dreisbach have hereunto set my hand & Seal, Dated the day & Year first above written." -- Jacob Dresbach (seal). Signed, Sealed, published pronounced and declared by the said Testator, as his last Will & Testament, in the presence of us the Subscribers - Henry Spyker, Henry Dresbach, Northumberland Co., PA.

NOTE: The smaller old tombstone is not the original. We do not know when, or by whom it was replaced. However...
1) There are no dates of birth or death
2) His surname is incorrectly spelled.
3) Jacob's Revolutionary War service is incorrect!
The people responsible for this tombstone conflated Northumberland County, PA and Northampton County, PA. They inscribed the Rev. War service for a "Jacob Dreisbach of Northampton County," the son of Simon Dreisbach Jr., instead of the Rev. War service for "Jacob Dreisbach of Northumberland County" son of Martin Dreisbach. Note - in 1813 Union County was carved out of Northumberland County, PA.

A descendant, David K., identified the error and persisted in contacting people until he was able to find a responsive group with the Dreisbach-Dresbach Family Association who have followed his research and agree that the information is incorrect. The new stone with correct information was placed in the cemetery in December, 2021.
Additionally, the tombstone of Jacob's wife, Magdalena Buchs Dreisbach is broken and a new tombstone has been purchased for her gravesite at Dresbach Church, located on the Pickaway Co. and Fairfield Co. line road in Ohio, near Tarlton. The GAR insignia at Jacob's grave site is also incorrect and will be replaced with a Revolutionary War medallion soon.
