Glenn L. Harbach, 78, entered into eternal life on Feb. 17, 2008 at his home. A lifelong resident of Jersey Shore, he was born Oct. 19, 1929. Glenn was the son of the late Philip B. and Catherine Reese Harbach.He was an exceptional husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Mary; three daughters, Lisa of Jersey Shore, Lori (Dave) Royer of Linden and Suzette (Jay) Shipman of Jersey Shore; a son, Brad (Carmen) of Gardiner, Mont.; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Dean R. (Dawn) of Linden and Phillip G. (Linda) of Jersey Shore; and an uncle, Charles Reese. A sister, Phyllis, preceded him. Glenn was married to his wife, Mary, for 47 years. They would have celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on March 4, 2008. A 1947 graduate of Jersey Shore High School, Glenn continued to pursue his lifelong yearning of higher education. In 1987, he became a full-time student at the age of 57, earning a B.S. degree from Lock Haven University in 1990, majoring in management science. In 1948, Glenn enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the National Guard 200th Field Artillery Battalion in Lock Haven when his unit was activated in 1951 at the outbreak of the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952 after rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1952, Glenn began his employment with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board as a stock boy in the Jersey Shore state store. After 25 years of service, he retired from the state store system as a supervisor for the Williamsport District in 1978. A pillar of the community, Glenn involved himself in many community projects. After graduating from Lock Haven University, he received training and was certified for the AARP tax aide program, providing free tax services to the elderly. He served as a director of the Larryville School Restoration Association and helped with the recycling program, which benefits the school restoration project, at the Piatt Township building. Glenn was a member of the Larryville United Methodist Church, where he served on the administrative board and board of trustees. He was a member of the Jersey Shore Library Board, George W. Pepperman Post American Legion, Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees and Lock Haven University Alumni Association. Glenn was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper who shared his love for the outdoors with his children and grandchildren. He was a man of honor with broad interests and an undaunted determination to achieve goals. All those who knew him were touched by his goodness. We will sadly miss him.

Glenn's Life Celebration will begin with a visitation on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, 1002 Allegheny St. Services will follow on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery with military honors. The family has asked, in lieu of flowers, a contribution be made to the Jersey Shore Library, 110 Oliver St., Jersey Shore, PA 17740 or Susquehanna Hospice Home Care, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
