John D. VanScoyk, 88, of the South Bend Convalescent Center, died at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Convalescent Center after a seven-year illness. He was retired from the Bremen Iron and Metal Corp. He was born on Dec. 21, 1890, in Scot, Ohio, and came to South Bend in 1923 from Peru, Ind. He married Gertrude Stettler on April 12, 1915. She died in 1969. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Thelma Kronewitter of Mishawaka, and Mrs. Pauline Glassburn of South Bend; four sons, Wayne and Harry E. of South Bend, Robert of Florida and John of Edwardsburg; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; six great-great-granchildren; a sister, Mrs. Catherine Fox of South Bend, and a brother, Theodore, also of South Bend.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 1201 S. Michigan. Rev. Scott Shoaff, assistant pastor of the First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
