Navy veteran was longtime waterproofer
Daniel S. DeFinnis, Navy veteran, age 67, of West Front Street, Berwick, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, in Berwick Retirement Village II, surrounded by family and friends. Daniel was born in Berwick, Feb. 9, 1945, the son of Daniel and Dorothy (Humphries) DeFinnis.
Upon graduating from Berwick Area Senior High School, he served in the U.S. Navy onboard the Newman K. Perry. He worked for many years in the waterproofing business.
Dan was an avid football fan, having played for the Berwick Bulldogs. He was a very proud American who displayed his patriotism through his "flag attire" and decorations. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as a member of Troop 12 in Berwick. In his youth, he enjoyed many hours at the YMCA.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, the former Jan Breech, and son James; his daughters: Amy Barbella and husband Carmen of Margate, N.J.; Lisa DeFinnis of Spring Hill, Fla.; sons: David DeFinnis and wife Amy, and Daniel DeFinnis, both of Berwick, and grandchildren: Erica and Erin, Sarina and Nicholas, Luca and Giovanni, respectively. Also surviving are his brothers: Dr. John E. DeFinnis and wife Janice of Berwick, James C. DeFinnis and wife Lorraine of Berwick; and the following nieces and nephews: Dr. Thomas DeFinnis, Michele Ouimet, Dr. James DeFinnis, Samuel DeFinnis and Melissa Spaide, and their children.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11:30 a.m. at the Mayo Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Chestnut St., Berwick, with the Rev. A visitation will be held today, Jan. 1, 2013, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11:30 a.m. at the Mayo Funeral Home Inc., 110 Chestnut St., Berwick, with the Rev. Dominick Mammarella, retired pastor, officiating.
A private family interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Berwick, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Boy Scouts of America, 5 Audubon Court, Bloomsburg, PA 17815; the Berwick YMCA, 231 W. Third St., Berwick, PA 18603, or other charity of choice.
