Charles "Charlie" Thomas Russell III, 72, of Austin passed away after a short battle with cancer on Wednesday, April 6, 2005.

He was born in Georgetown on January 12, 1933, to Charles Thomas Russell Jr. and Mary Birch Russell.

Charles was a wonderful husband and father. He and his wife Bonnie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in March of this year. Family and friends will always remember him as a kind, friendly man, well thought of by all. Charles served in the U.S. Army at Fort Hood, as a police office with the Georgetown Police Department, as a field deputy with the Travis County Sheriff's Department and as a highway patrol sergeant with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Capitol Division in Austin, retiring after 35 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Guthrie Russell; one son, Charles "Charlie" Ray Russell of Bastrop; two daughters, Ramona (Mona) Russell and Donna Russell of Austin; brothers, Jack Russell of Bartlett, Jimmy and wife Marsha Russell of Weir and Mark and wife Janis Russell of Georgetown; sister, Charlsie and husband Harold Moore of Georgetown; and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation was held from 6 until 8 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2005, at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel in Georgetown. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2005 at the chapel with Rev. Tommy McIntosh presiding with interment following at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Georgetown.

Pallbearers were Bob Berry, Tim Baker, Richard Moore, Bill Berry, Ronny Prellop and Kenny Chambers. Honorary pallbearers were members of San Gabriel Lodge # 89.
