MASON CITY - Robert A. Brown, 87, of Mason City, died Thursday (Feb. 14, 2008) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave., with the Rev. Jim Stiles officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors performed by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Mason City.

Memorials may be directed to the Robert A. Brown Memorial Fund.

Robert Archer Brown was born May 4, 1920, in Sutherland, Iowa, the son of Columbus O. and Carrie D. (Archer) Brown. He attended schools in Sutherland until moving to Rockwell at the age of 12 and graduated from Mason City High School in 1938. After high school he worked on the family farm until enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1941. He served in World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945.

After his return he was married in 1946 to Dorothy Bisgrove in Mason City. Bob farmed his entire life. He also worked at Decker's and also the sugar beet plant part time through the years.

He enjoyed going dancing with his wife, playing golf, playing cards and traveling. He enjoyed going south for three weeks every year in the winter. He also enjoyed the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was a member of the VFW in Mason City and the North Iowa Co-op. He also served on the boards of the Farmer Co-op Gas and Oil and also the Milk Producers. He also was a long-time active member of First United Methodist Church.

Robert is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Mason City; two children, Janan K. Schreiner and husband, Mike, of Deephaven, Minn., and Mark Brown of Mason City; grandchildren, Joshua Schreiner and Andreea Schreiner of Deephaven, Minn., Jake, Clint, Avery, Tony and Scottie Brown of Mason City; sisters, Mary Ellen Johnson of Marionville, Mo., and Barbara Boggs of Apache Junction, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Elaine Brown of Mason City, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and two brothers.
