Homer Vern was the second of the 11 children of America Holton (Thompson) and Daniel Ayres Baker and was born in Platteville, Colo. When just a few months old, the family moved to Hartford City, Indiana where Vern attended the local schools. In 1902 when Vern was 16 years old, the Baker family, now numbering nine children, boarded a train and moved permanently to Colfax, Washington. Here two more daughters were born.

Homer Vern was married to Maude M. Babcock in Endicott, Washington on September 22, 1913. Most of their lives were lived in Los Angeles, California where Vern was a house and commercial painter.

They had two children: Martin Champs and Laverna Maude Baker, and two grandchildren.

Died at age 77 years, 7 months, 10 days.

Homer Vern was a grandson of Mary Elizabeth (Ford) & Capt. Joseph Moran Thompson of Wabash, Indiana, and a gr-grandson of Dr. James & America (Holton) Ford of Wabash, Indiana.
