Charles William was born in Illinois, son of John Duncan and Sarah Eunice Griffith and later moved to Carthage, Missouri. In 1879, he moved, by covered wagon, to Sumner County, Kansas. On Feburary 19, 1888, he married Mary Jannette Miekle and lived near Conway Springs. Charles made the run to Oklahoma when the strip was open for homesteading in 1906. He claimed a plot of land five and one half miles north of Hooker, Oklahoma. He was the county assessor when the panhandle was one county. He also served on the school board and community affairs and jury. Charles was a farmer all his life.
He was the father of 6 children, George W. Duncan, May Duncan Pratt, Mildred Duncan Oliver, Gertrude Faye Duncan Remling Powell, Edna D. Duncan, Carl E. Duncan.
