As an employee of Greenwood Utilities Co, he went on a service call at the Yazoo Valley Oil Mill. He was to replace a fuse in an Electrical transformer.
After raising the bucket of the service truck level with the transformer to make the repairs, the transformer blew up spraying him with hot oil and causing him to jump from the bucket.
He was transported to the Greenwood Hospital and later to the Greenville Burn Center , where he succumbed from his injuries.
He was preceded in death by both Paternal and Maternal grand-parents.
He was survived by his brother, John Wayne and his two sisters, Patsy and Debbie.
