Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a 71 year old great grandmother who works on genealogy every day. I was born in Jefferson Co., New York but now live in Davenport, Florida. My family is very important to me. My hobbies include reading, genealogy, crocheting, & baking. I have traveled in the past within the USA even living in Alaska for a couple years when I was a child. I have found 4 of my relatives tombstones on this site one in Alaska I never would have been able to visit. I am very proud to become a part of it.

I found this site looking for relatives and where they were buried and started adding some that were not listed . I also found that some of the cemeteries themselves weren't listed. Most of my memorials are for relatives but not all so if you find one you want transferred ask and if they are not closely related to me I will be happy to transfer them to you. I think they belong with family. If you have any additions (or corrections)also let me know.My email has an underscore between the T & M that doesn't show up good.

I have found this site very helpful to resize pictures that you want to add here.

This link is from Sharon Hanson Frey's member page. It is one of the best tools for genealogy I have seen in a long time. It gives you a birth date when you find only the death date and person's age on their tombstone.

RE: George Gotham
Yes, I would love it if you could send the link. I get the feeling there are some very interesting stories in that family line. I may try to call the cemetery and see if they have any records, and try to make it there myself this summer to look. Last weekend we visited the burial place of his wife Frances (Montney) Gotham Speirs. As he died so young she married again, and lived to age 97. She is buried next to her grand-daughter Lorena, who died young in childbirth, and Lorena's husband.

George Myron Gotham
Hi Thelma, I am the great-great granddaughter of George Myron Gotham, through Grace Gotham-Rutherford, and T. Perry Rutherford. Do you know if there is a headstone at Evergreen Twp Cemetery in Shabonna, MI for George Gotham? Have you ever tried to put in a photo request? I may try to get there myself this summer, but you sound like you would be a good resource as I start to research that line of my family. :) I live in Michigan, just west of Grand Rapids. Thanks! RE: Wolfe Island

My 1st cousin's wife's grandmother was Ellen White, daughter of John White and Jane McAllister. She eventually moved to Rochester and married a George Wakefield. Joan Wakefield Bartell is her granddaughter.

I started working on Joan's side of my tree out of gratitude to her (and others on the Bartell side of my tree) for having met with me last year when I reached out to find the Bartell side of my family.

Interesting to see how the Whites, McAllisters and Mackeys migrated from Wolfe Island to points south (Watertown, Rochester, Buffalo and Detroit).

If you are interested you can follow Charles Leavis on Find A Grave down the family line. Charles married Catherine White, Ellen's sister.

Also are you aware that you can access Ontario's Catholic church records for free on-line (these are not available on Ancestry)? Google "Ontario, Roman Catholic Church Records, 1760-1923" and follow the links to any church you wish. Sacred Heart of Mary on Wolfe Island is there with some records back to the 1840s. They are not indexed which means you have to read through many handwritten pages to find what you are looking for but still very interesting.

RE: Frances Leavis

Unfortunately, I do not own the rights to the certificate. I'm only able to view it and attach it to my tree. And while I've communicated with a few people from the area, the person putting this on Ancestry is not one with whom I have a relationship with.

Funny thing. I just do this as a hobby. I found myself in the Islands area because the wife of my 1st cousin relatives were born and raised on Wolfe Island.

Thanks for annotating Frances' memorial.

RE: Frances Leavis

The baptism certificate has the church listed as St. John's Church. Find A Grave has the same church as St John's the Evangelist Catholic Church.

RE: Frances Leavis
Hi Thelma,

I did notice the inconsistency. Her baptism certificate lists the place of birth as Gananoque. That is also where I got her birth date. A family member was kind enough to share it on Do you have an account? If so, you can see it on my tree, The Bartell-Gomez Family Tree, as an attachment to Frances "Fanny" Jane Leavis. I don't find it unreasonable that she was born "in town" as many Howe Islanders seemed to go there often as it is so close. The conflict, however, is interesting. Perhaps we should add a note that explains where the Gananoque reference comes from?
