Other Notables:

I work on my family's genealogy.

Some surnames I also work with on my wife's side are: Wyatt, Blair, Hutton, Rich, Billop, Winslow, Fuller, Sedgwick, Jones, Huber, McCormick, Williams, Blackwood, Kneeland, Hutton, VanNess, Gregory, Bosley, Noel, Alleyne, Leonard, Furman, Brittingham, Bassett, & Clark.

My wife is descended from Mayflower Passangers James Chilton, Mary (Chilton) Winslow and Edward Fuller. Mary Chilton who married John Winslow.

DNA (William James Jr):

Y-DNA: J-FGC52332 (J2 Haplogroup from England)
MtDNA: T2b7a2 (also from England)

Note about James Y-DNA:

The James' trace their roots to England in the Middle-Ages. A J2 Y-DNA Haplgroup is rare in England. Haplogroup J accounts for about 2% of the population of England. J2 is about 20% of that (or roughly .4% of the population). Originally J2 it is from the Middle East (thousands of years ago). How my family of James' from the middle east got to England long ago is a mystery. Some think it was the Roman Army, others think traders. We have extended DNA connections in a section of Italy and genetic research suggests that J2 was in the the Middle East, moving across to Turkey (Anatolia and Lidia), then to Italy and finally into eastern Europe and England.

The earliest KNOWN direct James ancestor is William Laban James Sr, Born in 1734 in Stokes County, North Carolina. However, extensive DNA testing of various James in the early 21st century indicates a direct connection to a branch of James' who immigrated from Hingham, Norfolk, England in 1634 on the Ship 'Diligent' and established the town of Hingham, Mass. 700 Y-DNA alleles were tested and a close relationship between my branch and the Hingham James' was genetically proven. Whether my line is connected to the Hingham James' directly from a US branch or from a branch in Norfolk (East Angelia) England is unknown.

Further genealogical research connects the James' line and the Hingham James line to a group of James' in the middle-ages who lived in Rockland, St. Peter, Norfolk, England as early as 1400. Most of the men were listed a 'Yeoman' (the closest thing to middle class that existed at that time (Land owning merchants and farmers).

However, I am missing about 3 generations between 1615 and 1734) to completely fill out the genealogical picture back to 1400.

Research continues.
