Son of Harman Atkins and Maria (Mann) Atkins

"George Atkins, whose serious illness was reported in the TIMES last week, died at his home on Church street on Wednesday night, March 29, aged 77 years. Grip was the cause of death. He had resided in this town nearly all his life, coming here from Richmondville when a small boy. After leaving his farm on South Hill he moved to the village. He was a quiet, unassuming man, a good neighbor and held in high esteem by a large circle of friends. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Levi Gallup of South Hill; two brothers, Isaac of Worcester and John of Northville; also by three sisters, Mrs. Lavina Layman of Worcester, Mrs. A. L. Maxwell of Logansport, Indiana, and Mrs. J. R. Griggs of Lawrence, Kansas. Funeral services were held at the house on Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. L. Herrick, pastor of the Baptist church, and burial was in Maple Grove cemetery." [The Worcester Times (Worcester, NY), April 6, 1911, pg. 5, col. 3]
