On September 2, 1724, Fourteen men together with Pastor Rev. Samuel Barrett, established the First Congregational Church at Hopkinton, MA. In 1728, Rev. Samuel Barrett officiated the wedding of William Montgomery's daughter, Abigail, to John Harper in the (Christ Church) First Congregational Church of Hopkinton, MA. On April 9, 1732, the (Congregational) church (Christ Church) at Hopkinton voted the acceptance of the Cambridge platform, which gave great offense to the Scotch Presbyterians, and James Montgomery, Robert Cooke, William Henry, Walter Stewart, Robert Huston, John Hamilton and others absented themselves from communion and later organized a new church.
