Mary Pieper, 94, Parkview Nursing Home, Dodge, formerly of Howells, died May 10, 2000, at Parkveiw Nursing Home.

Funeral services were held May 12 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, Howells. Father Paul Ortmeier officiated. Nathan, Amy and Rachel Tichita were alter servers. The church choir provided music with Wayne Molacek as accompanist.

Kathy Langhorst served as lector. Offertory gifts were presented by granddaughters Linda Belsky, Chris Stewart and Mary Jean Cech. EME's were Rita Langhorst and Herman Krepel.

Interment was in SS Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, rural Howells. Pallbearers were Gary Langhorst, Robert Vrba, John Brichacek, Ronnie Brabec, Bob Belsky and Richard Olsen.

Visitation was held Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. rosary service, and resumed Friday 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., all at the church.

The daughter of Joseph & Marie (Dolejs) Evert, she was born May 4, 1906, in rural Howells. She attended Sacred Heart Academy, Olean, rural Dodge. She married Fred Pieper on May 4, 1926 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Olean. They lived on a farm southeast of Howells. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Pieper was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and Altar Society.

Survivors, include one son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Jackie Pieper, Norfolk; five daughters and son-in-laws, Lavina and Gerhard Langhorst, Luciel and Leonard Jones, Elaine and Charles Vrba, Schuyler, Rose Marie and Steve Brabec, Clarkson, Joan and George Brichacek, Schuyler; 28 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Anna (Mrs. Emanuel) Sisel, Prague, Elizabeth (Mrs. George) Zila, Creighton, and Sister Helen Evert, OSF, Campbellsport, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a infant son Julius; two grandsons; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Agnes (Mrs. Ernie) Mejstrik and Irene, Sister Seraphia, OSF; and seven brothers, Alois, Rudolf, Joseph F., Leonard, Raymond, Richard, and Gilbert.

Svoboda Funeral Home, Schuyler, was in charge of arrangements.
