Clyde B. Layaw, 89, of Potsdam, died October 5, 2010, at the St. Regis Nursing Home, Allen-Nichols Funeral Home, Ogdensburg, in care of arrangements. A graveside service will be Friday, October 15, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Southville Cemetery, Monsignor Robert Aucoin officiating.

Clyde is survived by his wife Marilyn; son Daniel and Tammy Layaw, Sanfordville; daughters Robin and Timothy Bradish, Potsdam, and Angela Layaw and companion Darrin Kelley, Massena; brothers Lloyd Layaw, Groton, and Paul Layaw, Potsdam; grandchildren Karen and Dana Layaw, Brittany Ashley, Lenny, Eric and Jason Oney, and Brandy and Justin Bradish; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers and six sisters.

He was born February 11, 1921 in Norfolk the child of George and Delia Tebo Layaw. He was in the US Army from 1942 – 1945 in Company A-114th Engineer Battalion, serving in Luzon, New Guinea, and the Southern Philippines. He was awarded the Atlantic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Philippines Liberation Medal and the Bronze Star Medal. He married Marilyn LaPoint on August 3, 1946 in Groton, New York. He was a production superintendent and heavy equipment operator for Barrett Paving and Materials Inc. in Norwood for 35 years until his retirement in 1981.

He was a member of the Potsdam VFW Post. He loved playing with his great grandchildren, fishing, camping, hunting, playing pool, shuffleboard, and horseshoes.
