Born in Braddock Pennsylvania Doris was a young girl during the depression, her family, who had been quite well off before the depression hit, moved to California in 1940 after losing everything. When they moved it was the end of Doris's 8th grade year in school. Not knowing anyone and being lonely she read books and went to movies which inspired a lifetime of loving to read. During the families first year of life in California her Father died in a car accident, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and both of her brothers went off to war leaving her and her Mother alone.

Doris made friends, worked part time jobs, and spent time in Glendale and Hollywood collecting autographs of some of the biggest stars. She started with the telephone company and graduated from high school in 1944.

Doris had an informal date at a bowling alley with a young man whose name was Bob. Bob went off to war but when he returned he looked her up and they married on a hot August day in 1947, in a chapel without air conditioning, in Glendale California. They were married for 60 years and 6 months prior to Bob's passing.

They both attended college and while he received his degree in Engineering she had to quit school to go to work as they ran out of money. Many years later she returned and got her degree in Social Work.

Bob's work in the oil business took them to many places to live and work including California, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, Venezuela, back to California, Kansas, back to California, Indonesia, Salt Lake City and St. George.

In 1954, they had their first child a beautiful baby girl they named Susan. When she was 2 years old they moved to Venezuela. These were some of the best years of their lives. They made lifelong friends and many happy memories. Upon returning to the states, back to California, they found she was pregnant again and in 1961 another daughter, Sharon, was added to the family. Both Doris and Bob were thrilled and delighted to have 2 wonderful daughters.

In 1969, they moved to Kansas City. During these years Doris worked for the Johnson County Mental Health agency specializing in addiction.

They moved back to California in 1979 and eventually both daughter's married. Bob was fond of saying that after the girls married they were free to go again and he took a job in Jakarta Indonesia, and indeed off they went.

Business took Doris and Bob to Salt Lake City, Utah following their stint in Indonesia, but golf took them to St. George Utah where they settled into retirement. They both loved all the friends they made at the Bloomington Knolls Country Club while enjoying golf and bridge the two things they did with each other throughout their years together.

After 60 years of marriage, and more than that of work, socializing, golfing, bridge, family, friends, and laughs Doris is reunited with Bob. The Matriarch as she is lovingly referred to by her Granddaughter Jenni now joins Bob in Heaven and as Doris says "We'll see what comes next!" As she once said to daughter Sharon: "When I go I will be ready. I love all of you very much and have had a very good, full, long life but I am lonely and miss your Dad." What a reunion that will be…

Doris is survived by her daughters, Susan, and her husband Lee Jones, who reside in Panama City Beach, Florida and their two beautiful daughters Jamie and Robyn and
Sharon and her husband Walt Freshour who reside in California and their two wonderful children Jennifer and Jason.

She is preceded in death by her Mother Francis May Wills, her Father Joseph Ralph Wills, brothers Joseph R. Wills, and Charles J. Wills, and her husband
Robert K. Saxon.

The family deeply wishes to thank GlenCove Nursing Pavilion and Covenant Hospice for all of their caring services and assistance during this difficult time.

Memorial services will be held Friday, November 16, 2012, at 1:00 pm at the Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church, 920 Tonaquint Dr., St. George, UT. Interment will be in the Tonaquint Cemetery, St. George, UT.
