Hiram Rollins Gerald was the 4th child and 3rd son of Orrin F. and Rose E. (Gerald) Gerald. He was named for Orrin's brother Hiram Rollins (1829-1912). Born on the family farm in Stacyville, Penobscot Maine, he grew to manhood doing odd jobs and working on the family farm.

20 Jan 1914, he married his sister's step-daughter, Bessie Eva Bates. She was the daughter of Albert Lincoln and Annie (McLaughlin) Bates. They were the parents of 2 sons, Bernard F. and Albert H. Bernard was unfortunately drowned in an accident when he was only 8 years old.
26 Jun 1928, Hiram married Inez Darling. She was the daughter of Anson and Julie F. (Howe) Darling.
24 Apr 1943, Hiram married for the 3rd and final time. This time he married his brother's widow, Lavina "Winnie" Hutchings.
Hiram died in 1962 and is buried in the Gerald plot, next to his third wife Winnie. Both Hiram and his ex-wife Bessie are listed on the headstone with their son Bernard in Sangerville, Maine, where he is buried.
