Abbott Orrin Gerald was born on 19 Dec 1888, the 7th child and 3rd son of Orrin F. and Rose E. (Gerald) Gerald. Like his siblings before and after him, he was born on the family farm in Stacyville, Penobscot, Maine. Also, like his siblings, he remained in the Stacyville area his entire life.

Unlike his older brothers, Abbott worked his entire adult life on the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad. The U.S. Federal Census lists his occupations as Trackman and Section Hand.

On 25 Aug 1916, Abbott was married to Alice Mae Hutchings, who emigrated with her family from Staffordshire, England in 1901. Her family settled on a farm in Stacyville, Penobscot, Maine. Abbott and Alice did not have any children of their own, but several census reports show that at various times, there were nieces of Alice's living with the family.

Abbott died in Stacyville, Penobscot , Maine on 19 March 1955. He was buried in the Gerald family plot in Sherman Corner Cemetery, next to his older brother, Herbert.
